Tradition

Most of our Christmas rituals are about food… surprise! Cookie-baking (all the favorites from years past and newly discovered recipes), holiday gifts, buffets for get-togethers… but our favorite rituals are the ones on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We always have lasagna on Christmas Eve, and it’s always made by Barry. He used to stay home and cook while the rest of us went to church, and that worked well for everyone! On Christmas Day, we always have French toast and scrapple, that Philadelphia breakfast meat that is so delicious (we have no idea what’s in it — and we don’t want to know.) The French toast recipe is getting tattered from use, but we only have it on Christmas, and we look forward to it all year… we use challah from Rolings Bakery in Elkins Park, and it’s crowned with a decadent apple/pecan/brown sugar topping. Ahhh… it’s the most wonderful meal of the year!
