“beer. burgers. basement.”

We visited Silver Spring, Maryland last weekend, and discovered a great dive bar/restaurant there called Quarry House Tavern. Their tagline: beer. burgers. basement. All true. There isn’t even a sign on the street for the Tavern — but after viewing a streetview Google image for the restaurant, we knew it was next door to another place called Gelato! (We’ll have to check that place out another time.)

Anyway, the QHT is really fun! They have a huge menu: burgers with inventive toppings, side dishes like homemade potato chips and tater tots (you can get ’em with Bay seasoning), tons of bottled beers and whiskeys — one whiskey goes for $300 a pop. But their slogan is also “Silver Spring’s favorite dive for over 70 years,” so it’s really a comfortably casual place. And they have a fabulous jukebox, with eclectic music from The Smiths to Johnny Cash to Dusty Springfield to Engelbert Humperdinck. Live music, too, with a rockabilly night on Saturdays.
