Go Pitt!

Recently we visited Kira at the University of Pittsburgh. It was a gorgeous early spring weekend.

I just love, love the Cathedral of Learning at Pitt. It’s 42 stories high, designed by Charles Klauder. You can see it from all over the city.

We finally went inside the nondenominational Heinz Memorial Chapel on campus, which was also designed by Klauder. The stained glass windows are stunning.

This window honors Sir Isaac Newton.

Abe Lincoln’s window…

The stained glass artist, Charles Connick, designed all 23 windows in the chapel. There are 391 different people who can be identified in the many windows.

This is the intricate oak woodwork of the pulpit.

All the wrought ironwork was done by Samuel Yellin of Philadelphia, including the lanterns and door fittings here.

Kira and Barry posed for a picture in the entranceway.

Here’s Kira at the log cabin on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. It is said that the university had its beginnings in the late 18th century in a log cabin.

The cabin is dwarfed by the Cathedral of Learning, in the background. I like the contrast.
